Standing is broader in PIL than in an ordinary private dispute, but it is not unlimited.

The Supreme Court Rules require a petitioner to have a meaningful relationship and substantial concern with the public-interest subject. Supreme Court jurisprudence likewise cautions that PIL is not intended for abstract curiosity or publicity.
