What should I do if a police complaint is filed against me?

Criminal Law

Do not assume that a complaint means you have already been found guilty. Preserve relevant evidence, avoid threatening or influencing the complainant or witnesses, find out the allegation and procedural status, and obtain legal advice early.

If police require your presence, respond through the lawful process. If arrest is contemplated, the Constitution and Criminal Procedure Code provide procedural protections.
