Nepal's Criminal Procedure Code uses a framework of pretrial detention, cash security, guarantee, bank guarantee and release on reporting dates. The applicable order depends on the offence, the immediately available evidence and statutory detention criteria.
“Bail” should therefore not be described as an automatic right to pay money and leave custody.
