The Constitution requires an arrested person to be produced before the authority competent to hear the case within 24 hours from arrest, excluding necessary travel time. Continued detention beyond that period requires lawful authority.
Section 14 of the Criminal Procedure Code similarly requires production within 24 hours as soon as possible.
